HOW TO:  How to use Wildcard Characters with Reports

Overview:

Some of the production reports that come with FLEETMATE will prompt you for information. These prompts support 'wildcard' characters, so that you may more precisely define your criteria.  The wildcard character used is the percent (%) character.

Procedure:

One report that supports search terms using wildcard expressions is entitled "Labor Type Detail by Vehicle and Labor Desc", which can be found under the "Maintenance" report type.   To use this report you will select the vehicles you want to include in your report, then click the report name.

Once you click the report name, the report will then prompt you for the labor description you are searching for.  Your search term is not case-sensitive.  Some example search terms are listed below:

  • oil - will list all work orders for all selected vehicles where a labor line description EQUALS the text "oil"

  • %oil% -  will list all work orders for all selected vehicles where a labor line description CONTAINS the word "oil"

  • %oil - will list all work orders for all selected vehicles where a labor line description ENDS WITH the word "oil"

  • oil% - will list all work orders for all selected vehicles where a labor line description BEGINS WITH the word "oil"

If you omit the wildcard character, only exact matches will be found and listed.  You may use a wildcard character with multiple words/phrases.  As an example, searching for %oil filter% will return the following values, if found in your database:

  • "changed oil filter"

  • "replaced oil filter and crankcase oil"
